Terroir In the heart of Roussillon area, with 48 hactares (119 acres) on the outskirts of Rivesaltes, our estate comprises two distinct properties. Le Clos  In the lower foothills of the Corbières district, at the entrance of the Agly valley and within the parishes of Salses and Espira de l'Agly, tis single plot covering 23 hectares (57 acres) lies on limestone-clay over bedrock. The hills and steep slopes here face south-east and enjoy the benefits of the Tramontagne (prevailing, very dry NW wind). Grenache and Syrah vines,with thier naturally low yields of 155-20 hectolitres per hectare, flourish here, producing Côtes du Roussillon and Côtes du Roussillon Villages wines with excellent structure and balance. La Pinède  Planted on the Baixas plateau, this 25 hectares (62 acres) vineyard, again a single plot, stands on a quaternary limestone-clay terrace. An ideal location for these fifty year-old Grenache Vines, it is scattere with large river-rolled pebbles that absorb heat during the day and radiate it back to the vines at night as soon as the weather is good. Grenache grapes are in their element here and reach very high natural level of maturity. One 4 hectare plot (roughly 10 acres) of Muscat Petit Grain is among the earliet to ripen in France. Usually harvested the 7 and 14 august, it produces a dry Muscat of almost 13°. |
